Atlas Bridges
The Mabey Atlas Bridge System is a unique steel decked bridge system that combines Mabey Bridge’s expertise in plated bridge steelwork with the company’s extensive experience of steel decking systems.
A lightweight superstructure which incorporates the maximum pre-fabricated components resulting in modular Bridge systems with rapid installation times.
The Atlas Bridge System is capable of spanning up to 73 metres and suited to both urban and rural applications. Standard roadway widths of 4.2m (extra wide single lane) and 7.35m (2 lanes) are available, which can be combined with internal pedestrian refuges to make up the total deck width.
Various decking systems are also available to suit a range of loading requirements, from single road going vehicles through site earth moving equipment to full international highway loading standards. The steel decking can be provided with a ‘Durbar’ chequer plate finish or with an additional factory applied polyurethane based anti-skid surfacing for improved skid resistance, making the Mabey Atlas Bridge system suitable for all permanent and long-term temporary bridge requirements.
The result is a bespoke modular bridge system that can be used for any highway bridge with a clear span of up to 73.15m. All main structural components are hot-dip galvanised to ensure a long life with minimal maintenance.
Due to Mabey Bridge’s highly automated manufacturing facilities, the Atlas Bridge System can accommodate complex geometry cost effectively. Full horizontal and vertical curvature can easily be achieved as can skew ended bridges and intermediate support locations. The Atlas Bridge System is particularly suited to projects that benefit from a low weight solution or from the structure being erected at rapid speeds
Atlas Bridges are delivered to site in component form using standard ISO containers, ready for assembly and installation using a crane or cantilever launching method. Mabey Bridge has significant experience of providing the technical assistance required to assist local labour with these works.
Each bridge is designed specifically for the client’s individual needs by Mabey Bridge’s in-house team of specialist engineers. The Mabey Atlas Bridge system can be used to create single and multi-span highway bridges, or configured with specially designed bespoke intermediate supports to create an all steel flyover.
The Atlas bridge system is ideal for shorter span permanent bridges on main highways and minor roads, and for flyovers to provide congestion relief in inner cities.
